Researchers from SE Ukrmetrteststandart, Oleksii Stennik (Leading Researcher, PhD) and Serhii Pasichnyk (Junior Researcher), completed specialized training at France’s National Metrology Institute, the Laboratoire national de métrologie et d’essais (LNE).
From 1 to 4 September 2026, LNE hosted the Summer School on Thermophysical Quantities Metrology at its facilities in Paris and Trappes, with the support of the European Association of National Metrology Institutes (EURAMET). The programme combined theoretical instruction with hands-on experimental training.
The training covered the principles and measurement methods for thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, specific heat capacity and enthalpy of fusion. It also addressed the preparation of certified reference materials and the evaluation of measurement uncertainty.
During the practical sessions, participants gained experience in measuring thermal conductivity using a guarded hot plate apparatus, determining thermal diffusivity through the laser flash method, and measuring specific heat capacity and enthalpy of fusion using a drop calorimeter.
The programme also introduced participants to advanced techniques for characterizing the thermophysical properties of solids at the nanoscale, including a measurement system based on scanning thermal microscopy.
The knowledge and practical experience gained will contribute to the further development of SE Ukrmetrteststandart’s measurement standards and capabilities, supporting continued improvements in thermophysical metrology.
