From 28 October to 1 November 2024, PhD Yurii KUZMENKO, Deputy Director General for Metrology, Conformity Assessment and Scientific Activities, CIML Member from Ukraine, and PhD Ihor POTOTSKYI, Director of the Research and Technical Institute of the National Metrology Service of Ukraine, participated in a study visit on legal metrology in Buros (Kingdom of Sweden). This visit was part of the technical assistance project "Strengthening the Quality Infrastructure of Ukraine" funded by the Swedish Government and implemented by the consortium of the Swedish Board for Accreditation and Conformity Assessment (SWEDAC) and the Swedish Institute for Standards (SIS). The aim of the project is to implement measures to support Ukraine's Quality Infrastructure during the war and to rebuild Ukraine in the post-war period.
During the study visit, Yurii KUZMENKO and Ihor POTOTSKYI gained an understanding of the Swedish legislative framework for legal metrology, understanding its role, tasks and functions; got acquainted with SWEDAC as the Swedish regulatory authority in the field of legal metrology and understood the process of issuing regulations; understood the process of regulatory monitoring and enforcement of SWEDAC regulations; identified future areas of support for processes and development within legal metrology and the required quality infrastructure. The current situation in Ukraine, especially the Quality Infrastructure, was of particular interest to the Swedish colleagues. They were also interested in the Ukrainian specialists' experience of how to effectively establish work in crisis situations, overcome challenges and adapt business processes under martial law.
Yurii KUZMENKO and Ihor POTOTSKYI, together with other participants, are developing an Action Plan for the period 2025-2027 by online after their visit to SWEDAC.
